Like all photographers, I take a lot of pictures. Mostly I try to capture interesting and beautiful images. But my passion is to also capture images that reveal more than what my eyes can see - to stimulate the imagination through images that are both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. Because the world we experience is revealed through our senses but interpreted by our brains, there is more to experience than that which our eyes see and our brains interpret. A camera can be a window beyond our senses. It can see light that our eyes cannot. It can expand or compress time. It can reveal colors where our eyes see none. I try to use my camera to reveal a world hidden from us by the limitations of our senses, offering new perspectives that widen our appreciation and understanding of the world around us.
To create these images I try to use only light, time, and my cameras. These days the images are digital, so the raw data files must be “developed” using software. This allows technical deficiencies like lens distortion and camera artifacts to be corrected. I believe the final image should accurately reflect what existed in that moment as seen by the camera. It is much more challenging to work within these constraints, and my results are usually not that great and never technically perfect. But like most things in life, it’s trying to meet the challenge that provides the reward. If I (or you) also enjoy the resulting images, well, that’s just icing on the cake.
For this website I have selected some of my favorite images. I’m always adding new ones so check back occasionally, and let me know what you think.
